Manchester United have made a late alteration to the travelling squad for the Europa League round-of-16 second leg against AC Milan on Thursday.
While there is good news regarding David De Gea, Donny van de Beek and Paul Pogba, who do make the trip and should be available for selection, unfortunately Edinson Cavani suffered a reaction in the final training session before boarding the flight at Manchester Airport.
The Uruguayan was always facing a race against time to make the clash, with the scores level 1-1 after the first leg, but will now remain in England along with Eric Bailly, who was also being assessed.
“We are happy to have Donny back, Paul and David,” Ole explained to MUTV’s Mark Sullivan.
“Big players. Unfortunately, it looks like Edinson has got a bit of a reaction to training today and didn’t feel ready to travel.
“Eric is being assessed. I might be wrong there [in saying he was out]. He might have turned around and said he’s ready but he didn’t train this morning.”
The centre-back has also not made the squad, following a late assessment of his fitness.
UPDATED SQUAD LIST
De Gea, Henderson, Grant; Lindelof, Maguire, Shaw, Telles, Tuanzebe, Wan-Bissaka, Williams; Amad, Fernandes, Fred, James, Matic, McTominay, Pogba, van de Beek; Greenwood, Rashford.
United agree contract with defender on loan at Derby
Manchester United have agreed a new three-and-a-half-year deal with defender Teden Mengi, who is currently on loan at Derby.
Academy product Mengi, who made his senior debut in last season’s Europa League against LASK Linz, is set to stay at the club until at least 2024, with an option for an additional 12 months in his contract.
United legend Rooney, now Derby manager, used his connections at Old Trafford to bring Mengi to Pride Park on loan in January, giving the centre-back an opportunity to get first-team minutes in the Championship.
His performance earned him high praise from Rooney, who told Rams TV: “I have tried a three at the back few times, but tonight was the best we performed it.
“Teden Mengi was excellent in the middle of the three centre-backs and I thought Craig Forsyth – his first game for a while – did well and Kelle Roos was excellent in goal.”
A statement from United read: “Manchester United is delighted to announce that Teden Mengi has signed a new contract which will keep him at the club until June 2024, with the option to extend for a further year.
