Paul Pogba and Donny van de Beek back, Five things spotted at Manchester United training ahead of AC Milan clash

Manchester United have been stepping up preparations for the second leg of their Europa League last 16 tie with AC Milan.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer ‘s squad were put through their paces at the Aon Training Complex on Tuesday ahead of the Milan game at the San Siro on Thursday evening.

The tie is finely balanced at 1-1 following last week’s first leg at Old Trafford.

Amad headed his first senior goal for United to open the scoring but Simon Kjaer netted a late equaliser for the visitors.

Here are a few things we spotted from the team’s latest training session as they bid to secure a quarter-final spot.

Paul Pogba, Donny van de Beek and Edinson Cavani all trained as they continue their way back to fitness following injury lay-offs. And goalkeeper David De Gea was also back in the fold after his absence due to personal reasons.

Dean Henderson has played the past four matches in goal while De Gea was back in his native Spain.

Pogba has been sidelined since the 3-3 draw with Everton on February 6 due to a thigh problem, while fellow midfielder Van de Beek has not figured since the 1-1 draw at West Bromwich Albion on February 14.

Striker Cavani has missed the past three matches after coming off in the goalless draw at Crystal Palace.

Youth and experience

Amad opened his United account in the first leg against Milan, having joined the club from Italian side Atalanta in the January transfer window.

The 18-year-old winger is certainly one for the future, though he is already showing what he can do.

No doubt he can learn plenty from 34-year-old striker Edinson Cavani, and the pair were pictured alongside each other at training on Tuesday.

The experienced Cavani is working his way back from injury amid speculation surrounding his future.

The Uruguay international’s father has said his son is unsettled in England and would like to return to South America in the summer.

Happy skipper

Captain Harry Maguire was all smiles at training, following another clean sheet in Sunday’s 1-0 win over West Ham, as United retained second spot in the Premier League table.

In fact, the late leveller by Milan was the only goal United have conceded in their past six outings in all competitions.

So, perhaps no wonder England centre-back Maguire looks in good spirits at the moment.

Technical director

Darren Fletcher was recently appointed as the club’s first technical director.

The former United midfielder has been part of Solskjaer’s coaching staff since his return to Old Trafford in January.

Fletcher could be seen keeping a close eye on training on Tuesday ahead of the Milan match

Looking ahead

United boss Solskjaer posed for a picture with youngsters Hannibal and Anthony Elanga at the training ground after the duo signed new contracts with the club.

Hannibal signed his new long-term deal on Monday, with fellow Academy prospect Elanga following suit on Tuesday.

The pair will be hoping to play their way into first-team contention over the coming years.
