Arsenal left-back Kieran Tierney says he was “just knackered” against Manchester City after Gary Neville noticed he “looked weary” during the match.

The Scot has been brilliant for the Gunners this season, making 18 Premier League appearances this season as an essential part of Mikel Arteta’s side.

Tierney missed a month of action recently with a hamstring injury, with the 1-0 loss against City his first start since Arsenal beat Newcastle United 3-0 in mid-January.

player ratings vs Manchester City as Saka impresses but Elneny and Aubameyang disappoint

Bernd Leno: Could do little about the goal but was guilty of being a little hasty to go long when playing out from the back. Still pulled off a great save from Gundogan in the second period and was assured in general. 6.

Hector Bellerin: Far too safe on the ball when going forward, which slowed down the Arsenal attack on a few occasions. Defensively fine but struggled a little more as Sterling stuck more to the left in the second period. 5.

Rob Holding: Quite how he got beaten in the air by someone about a foot shorter than him for Sterling’s goal only he will know. Looked rattled by his error in the first half but grew into it in the second and dealt well with third man runs from Gundogan. 5.

Pablo Mari: Like Holding he struggled initially but grew into it. Was generally assured on the ball save for a few moments of miscommunication with Saka and Tierney and was the most vocal member of the back four. 6.

Kieran Tierney: Simply couldn’t cope with the threat of Riyad Mahrez early on but grew to be a considerable threat down the left on his return to the side. Looked knackered after 60 minutes though and isn’t fully match fit yet. 6. full story
