Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s unexpected challenge for team-mates to drive Arsenal revival forward

One goal in four Premier League starts was not what Mikel Arteta, Arsenal fans or Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang himself would have expected at this point of the season.

The 31-year-old has been electric since joining the club in January 2018, scoring 70 goals in 109 games and helping the club to FA Cup glory to close off last season. As well as his goalscoring exploits, the job he has done to help younger players such as Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli settle into the first team cannot be understated.

Heading into this season, Arsenal could not afford to be without him and he was rightly handed a contract extension which will keep him in north London until at least 2023.

With his goal tally still on one, however, there’s no doubting there is room for improvement. That solitary strike came on the opening day at Fulham to finish the Gunners’ signature passage of play from goalkeeper, down the right wing and out to him on the left wing.

The test that has provided for Arteta, however, in a strange way has been exactly what he may have needed to set the tone for what will be a crucial season. Although Aubameyang starred in the 2019/20 campaign with 29 goals in all competitions [22 in the league], Lacazette [12] and Martinelli [10] were the only other players to hit double figures.

With goals particularly hard to come by for Arsenal last season and Aubameyang so consistent with his output, the missing link [other than a creative midfielder] was more goals from those around him.

Last season, a stretch of goalless games from their club captain may have been cause for panic, but so far, the Gunners have stepped up to the challenge. Lacazette has three goals in his three Premier League starts, Eddie Nketiah has netted twice in all competitions – including a vital winner against West Ham – and Nicolas Pepe has begun to show a real presence in the final third.

Arsenal still considering to terminate contract for £350,000-a-week star

Arsenal are reportedly still considering to terminated Mesut Ozil’s contract in the nearby future.

The 31-year-old has less than one year left on his current deal with the Gunners, however,  Mikel Arteta’s side are desperate to shift his £350,000-a-week wage bill off their books.

Former Germany international midfielder is not part of Spanish midfielders plans for the future and has not featured for the North London club in any competition since March and also being left out from the Europe League squad earlier today.

The former Real Madrid midfielder looks set to miss out in their Premier League team, making the chances of him playing any first-team actions.

The Daily Mail reports that the Gunners will resume talks over a mutual termination, however, are increasingly resigned to having German midfielder in their ranks until January at least.

The midfielder  is reportedly refusing to budge on his demands that almost all of the remaining £13m of his current salary be paid off before he agrees to depart from the club.

Ozil would be free to open transfer talks with other teams once he enters the final six months of his deal in January, however, the Gunners want to offload him permanently that month rather than waiting until next summer.

German midfielder who has managed to found back of the net 44 times and created 77 more in 254 games for the Gunners  overall, risked further angering the team recently by offering to pay the salary of sacked mascot Gunnersaurus until he will be Arsenal player.
