Arsenal might need a special thiago plan after his chelsea masterclass

One of the biggest signings of this transfer window has been Liverpool landing Thiago Alcantara from Bayern Munich.

The former Barcelona man won the Champions League, German Cup and Bundesliga this year with Bayern Munich before leaving them to join Jurgen Klopp’s juggernaut.

He was forced to make a first and early appearance for the Reds in their game against Chelsea last weekend, after Jordan Henderson was injured and couldn’t continue in the second half.

Thiago’s performance in his one half on the pitch can be considered a masterclass.

The midfielder made more passes than all Chelsea players in the game despite playing just 45 minutes and his 75 successful passes were the most by any player that has played just 45 minutes since full passing data became available.

If he can have that much impact in just 45 minutes, when he starts against us, he will probably represent our biggest problem on the day.

I have watched him weave his magic from midfield for Bayern Munich and I reckon that our best bet will be to come up with a special plan for him.

We will need our midfielders to be on hand to ensure that he doesn’t have the freedom to play with the ball as he did against Chelsea and that he also doesn’t get to complete all his passes, otherwise we will be in serious trouble.

Arsenal have been active in the transfer market this summer bolstering their side ahead of Mikel Arteta’s first full season at the club.

The Gunners have landed Willian, Gabriel Magalhaes and Alex Runarsson, while there was also a huge boost with captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang penning a three-year deal.

Granit Xhaka has praised Arsenal for their summer business as he claims that the club is aiming to return to playing Champions League football.

The midfielder is one of the most important members of the Arsenal first team and he has been part of their recent success stories.

The Gunners have won the FA Cup and the Community Shield recently under Arteta and they have backed the Spaniard in this transfer window as they look to build on those successes.

They have signed Gabriel Magalhaes, Willian, and Dani Ceballos (on-loan), yet their transfer business isn’t finished.

Add those new signings to the new deal that the club has handed Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and you will see a team that can challenge for a top-four spot.

Xhaka has praised the signing of those players and he claims that they have come with a lot of “quality and mentality”, before adding that the players are working hard to take Arsenal back to the Champions League.

“With Willian and Gabriel, Arsenal brought a lot of quality and mentality into the dressing room,” Xhaka told the Swiss Telegraphic Agency via Football London.

“Willian knows how to win titles.

“And the extension with Aubameyang was an important signal for all of us – we want to go back to the Champions League.”
