Chelsea vs Barnsley live: Kick-off time, confirmed line-ups and team

Hello and welcome to live coverage of Chelsea vs Barnsley in the Carabao Cup third round at Stamford Bridge.

Frank Lampard is looking to get his first bit of silverware since taking charge of the club last year.

However, the Blues boss is aiming to rotate his squad in order to give some of the fringe players some much needed game time.

Players like Callum Hudson-Odoi and Tammy Abraham have not had much time on the pitch and it will be vital for them to play.

Antonio Rudiger set to leave Chelsea after being left out of the squad for second-straight game.

The German defender has two years left on his deal with the west London club but has seen his minutes limited since Frank Lampard was appointed Chelsea boss last summer.

He averaged 30 Premier League appearances in the two seasons before Lampard’s arrival, but made just 20 in the 2019/20 campaign.

Rudiger was not among the 18 players chosen to face Liverpool on Sunday, and The Telegraph reports he has been omitted from the squad to face Barnsley in Wednesday night’s Carabao Cup clash.

The Spaniard has left Atletico Madrid to join former club Juventus on a season-long loan.

Morata spent two years at Juventus between 2014 and 2016 before returning to Real Madrid.

And he now rejoins the Serie A giants, who hold an option to buy at the end of the loan deal.

Chelsea bought Morata for just shy of £60million from Real Madrid and after a loan move to Atletico Madrid worth £6million, he departed for good on a deal worth more than £50million.

And while it never really worked out as planned for the Spaniard at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea have still done some very good business when it came to offloading Morata.

Chelsea fans have been reacting to that this morning on Twitter and there is plenty of praise for director Marina Granovskaia.

Here’s what they have had to say.

Morata has had just one full season with Atletico Madrid after joining permanently, scoring 12 league goals last season.

He now links up with Cristiano Ronaldo, Aaron Ramsey and others at Juventus where he scored 15 times in 63 league games during his first spell.
