Lacazette contract

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has admitted that the club are yet to open discussions with Alexandre Lacazette regarding a new contract.

The France international has less than two-years remaining on his deal and it was expected that discussions for an extension had already been initiated.

However, Arteta admitted that this is yet to happen as the current priority is completing their plans in the transfer market.

“At the moment, we haven’t started any negotiations,” Arteta said. “We have a lot of things still to do in this market and at the moment we are focusing on those things.”

Arsenal defender Shkodran Mustafi could soon seal a return to Serie A.

According to Corriere della Sera – via – Sport Witness, the centre-back is a target for Lazio and a deal could be done for between €10m-€12m (£9.1m-£11m), despite the Gunners’ €15m (£13.7m) asking price.

In addition, the report states that because Mustafi’s contract at the Emirates Stadium expires next summer, a sale for a cut-price fee seems likely.

Of course, joining Lazio would mark a return to the top-flight of Italian football for Mustafi – eight-and-a-half years after moving to Sampdoria from Everton.

He would remain at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris until the summer of 2014 when he earned a transfer to Valencia as well as a late call-up to the Germany squad for the World Cup.

And the German World Cup winner has fond memories of his time in Serie A.

“Someone had to Google my name to find me when I arrived at Samp,” he told Il Secolo XIX – as per Football Italia in 2014.

“But I think I’ve played well enough to make sure that doesn’t happen anymore!

“In England, I grew up a lot in terms of athleticism, but at Samp, I have become the complete defender.

“There is no better League than the Italian one if you want to improve in my role.

“I didn’t think I would get any playing time at the World Cup – so this tournament has exceeded all my expectations.”

Amid talk of Mustafi joining Lazio, some Arsenal fans have been getting excited about the prospect of a windfall.

Could the Gunners be about to raise funds for a double Houssem Aouar and Thomas Partey transfer by cashing in on Mustafi?
