Uruguayan star looks set to quit Arsenal for Serie A return

AC Milan have reportedly long held an interest in Arsenal star Lucas Torreira and have now made their move by inquiring regarding his availability this summer.

The Serie A side were linked with a swoop for the Uruguayan last summer and there had been contact about a transfer, but Arsenal board had no intention of selling the player they had only penned 12 months prior.

However, times have changed and Lucas does not feature in the plans of manager Mikel Arteta, who took over as Gunners boss in December.

He is one of a host of players available for transfer this summer as Mikel attempts to achieve something of a clear out, allowing the Spaniard to bring in new signings, with the likes of Thomas Partey and Houssem Aouar targeted.

Sky Sports Italy’s Gianluca Di Marzio claims that the inquiry has come in from I Rossoneri for Torreira, who has also been linked with Torino and Fiorentina this summer, having previously played in Serie A with Sampdoria.

Of course, Torreira is available but there will surely be a negotiation over price, with Arsenal thought to want around £22 million for the 24-year-old who cost them £26 million in 2018.

In an interview with Uruguayan radio station Sport890 last month, Lucas hinted he could be set to leave the club. ‘Today I need to think about my future very well,’ the South American said.

‘I have a contract with the club and I have to respect it, obviously, if I have to leave it will be for the best. ‘We have to be calm and wait.’
