Arsenal to announce £25m Gabriel Magalhaes transfer as defender posts Instagram message

Arsenal are set to seal a £25m deal for Gabriel Magalhaes as Mikel Arteta looks to bolster his defensive options even further in the summer transfer window.

Gabriel Magalhaes has made his decision.

The 22-year-old has at the centre of a transfer battle between Arsenal and Napoli as both teams look to bolster their central defensive options before the summer window closes at the beginning of October.

Earlier in the week, it was widely reported that the Gunners had agreed a deal worth £22m with Lille to sign Gabriel, but were facing competition from the Serie A side.

According to the Daily Mirror, via EurosportNapoli were weighing up a plan to allow Kalidou Koulibaly to join Manchester City in a £60million deal, to fund a late bid for Gabriel.

This transfer saga took a fresh twist when Manchester United reportedly entered the race which caused a delay over Gabriel decision.

However, the Gunners have won the race for the central defender’s signature as Fabrizio Romano has tweeted that an agreement with and Lille has now been reached, with the transfer fee set to be £25m plus adds-ons.

Furthermore, Gabriel will sign a five-year deal at the Emirates Stadium and will fly to London on Monday to put pen-to-paper on the contract with an announcement set for next week.

Amid all the speculation regarding his future, Gabriel appears to have bid farewell to Lille on social media.

Taking to Instagram shortly after reports of Arsenal’s agreement with Lille, he posted a message on to his stories which in translation reads as follows:

“For the good things and the bad things that made me grow and mature.”

Lille’s president Gerard Lopez revealed last weekend why he has not stood in the way of the Brazilian leaving this summer.

“He [Gabriel] is one of the players that we allowed to exit the club this summer, he asked for it and wants to try something else,” Lopez told Sky Sports. “We clearly told him what our expectations were, we spoke to a number of clubs, our expectations were met by a number of clubs and we have given him the time to decide.

“It is going to be entirely his decision.”
