Celtic eye Bayern Shot Stopper

Celtic have joined the race for the signature of Bayern Munich goalkeeper Sven Ulreich, according to a report in German outlet Sport1

The Scottish champions have reportedly made contact with the 32-year-old, who is now looking for a new club after the arrival of Alexander Nübel at the Bundesliga champions from Schalke 04, an arrival which has pushed Ulreich to Bayern’s number three choice behind Nübel and Manuel Neuer.

Ulreich, who is contracted at the Allianz until 2021, is also said to have attracted interest from within the Bundesliga as well as from Premier League and La Liga clubs.

As understudy to Neuer, Ulreich has made 45 Bundesliga appearances in his five years at the Bavarian giants, most of which came in 2017/18 where he deputized for an injured Neuer for the majority of the campaign, also playing 11 Champions League games in the same season.

Despite the arrival of Vasilis Barkas, who arrived from AEK Athens last month, Celtic could be in the market for another goalkeeper given that they lost two – Fraser Forster and Craig Gordon – in the summer.

Scott Bain started Celtic’s Scottish Premiership win over Hamilton, however, the 28-year-old is widely expected to drop down the pecking order to make way for Barkas, but it remains to be seen if he’ll be trusted to be the club’s backup or if Neil Lennon wants another option.

Ulreich could represent a high quality experienced option for Celtic, one who likely wouldn’t break the bank to bring to Parkhead.
